State of the LUG – 2023

Hi all – Happy New Year, and welcome to our new members! It’s been a minute since we had an update, so let’s talk about what we have coming up in 2023.

LUGBulk

If you are waiting for the next update on LUGBulk – so are we. We should see the parts list by mid January, and we will move fast when that happens. Next steps are:

  • LEGO releases list
  • Eligible LUGBulk Participants select 4-5 elements
  • Run Mock order for all participants
  • Use Mock order to reduce list to final 85 elements
  • Run the real order
  • Submit to LEGO

Watch this space and your email, we will need to move fast!

LUG Showcase

We will be at the Holiday Inn on March 31-April 1. Save the Dates!
If you are planning on having a table to display your LEGO Builds, we will be taking signups shortly. We’ve also had some interest from kids who’d like to display, so we will be discussing how that’s going to work.

Meetings

Meetings will continue – we want to try and have a meeting about once a month, so we will be scheduling something soon.

Build Challenges

We will also be bringing back monthly build challenges – if you have an idea for a theme, post in the comments!

Meeting January 7th, Upcoming Events

Hi all – I promised I’d be better at updating the site so our non FaceBook users get updated. It looks like I have at least one New Year’s resolution I am already “bending.”

There is a LUG meeting January 7th, 7pm at Bricks & Minifigures on Blackmarsh Road. Our agenda is:

  • Christmas Update – what did you get?
  • LUG Bulk Update
  • BrickLink tutorial

Additionally, there are some upcoming events you should keep in mind:

  • February 22nd 2020 is our Third Annual Showcase – this is when we show off all our builds for the year!
  • March 5th is the next meeting after this one
  • May 6th is our Annual General Meeting (AGM)- We will be electing Executive Officers for the next 2 years at this meeting.

If you want to be eligible to vote at the AGM , you need to have attended at least one other meeting or event since the last one (Exceptions can be made for active group members who are not local to the Northeast Avalon – talk to your executive!)

LUGBULK Application Approved!

NewfoundLUG’s application to participate in LUGBULK 2020 has been marked approved by LEGO! This means that we will be entered into the online ordering system and able to make our actual order in March 2020. We have 43 members registered to participate in LUGBULK 2020.

When the official LUGBULK Parts List is released for 2020, we will share this with the group.

Thanks to everyone who has shown an interest in this program so far and helping to make our first ever LUGBULK order a reality!

LUGBULK 2020 Submission- Approved

LUGBULK Meeting and Test Order Update

There will be a LUGBULK meeting on Thursday Nov. 28 at 7:00 PM. We’re meeting at Bricks & Minifigs located at 45 Blackmarsh Road, St. John’s. We’ll be finalizing the list of members to be signed up for LUGBULK, and discussing the parts list.

Thanks to everyone who has submitted a Test Order for the LUGBULK program. There’s still time to do so if you haven’t already.

If you have sent a test order, and haven’t gotten a confirmation email, please contact us! There is a signup process with LEGO and we need to send a list of names and ages of everyone planning to order from LUGBULK. We plan to send this list on December 1.

Test orders so far show our members plan to order

120,000+

LEGO elements from the LUGBULK program! It’s a great chance to get bricks for your collection and custom builds.

Meetings, Christmas Social and Fundraiser

Hey all – we have some upcoming things we need to schedule/discuss!

LUGBulk – I want one more meeting for those interested in our LUGBulk order – the deadline to apply for this is Dec 8th, so unless there is a serious objection, I’d like to have a meeting at the Store on Thursday, November 28th.

Christmas Social – We are going to have a small Christmas Social event this year, just a few pizzas and a few drinks – we’ll need to set a date for that, sometime in December. We will be drawing for some of our bigger sets that night!

Fundraiser – we have one of our activity Support sets flagged for a fundraiser draw for the LUG (specifically, it’s set 60228, Deep Space Rocket and Launch Control). I’d like to get started selling some tickets on that, as it would make a great Christmas gift!

NewfoundLUG Bulk Test Order

Interested in ordering large quantities of LEGO pieces directly from the LEGO Group? LUG members will have an opportunity in Feb-Mar 2020 to order from a list of 85 different pieces at preferred pricing. It’s a great way to get several hundred or thousand parts for your next project!

We’ve put together a test order form with the preliminary parts list for members to plan their purchases. Please fill out the form if you’re interested! Please contact us for the form’s username and password, and follow the link below:

LUGBULK Interest Survey

Once per year, Recognized LEGO User Groups have an opportunity to order large quantities of LEGO bricks directly from The LEGO Company at preferred prices. This program is known as LUGBULK and NewfoundLUG is hoping to participate in the next offering (2020). In planning for this, we would like to hear whether members are interested in participating.

Please take a moment to fill out this survey. If you have any questions on LUGBULK please don’t hesitate to contact us.
